Easy Wheat Bread

2 1/2 cups warm water
2 pkgs. dry yeast
4 T. soft shortening
4 T. honey, brown sugar or light molasses
4 tsp. salt
2 cups whole wheat flour
4 cups white flour

Dissolve yeast in water. Add shortening, salt, sugar and 1/2 the flour. Beat 2 minutes with mixer or 300 vigorous strokes by hand. Add remaining flour; blend in with spoon. Cover - let rise 30 minutes. Stir down by beating 25 strokes. Spread evenly in 2 greased pans. Batter will be sticky so smooth top by flouring hands and patting into shape. Rise 40 minutes. Bake at 375 deg. 45-50 minutes.
